Baptisms

baptismal font

The font was designed to be a focal point at the entrance of the Church because we do enter the Church through the sacrament of Holy Baptism.  It is my hope that when people enter the building they will focus on the sound of running, living water. As they move closer to the font they will see the butterflies soaring up to the ceiling and take a deep breath representing our new life in Christ.

The whole wall represents freedom and new life; the font is lined with black tile to represent the tomb and the chrysalis*. The tomb because when we are baptized the old Adam dies and is buried and the new person in Christ rises. The chrysalis because butterflies represent new life. There are three shallow bowls representing being baptized the name of the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. The candle for baptism is sitting on a shelf which was a part of the Berlin Wall. This too, represents freedom and the role that Lutheran Churches played in bringing down the wall.

Hopefully, people will come and meditate in this Holy Place.
